An Old Battle

Graphite Drawing

Lately I’ve been trying to refine my process for more finished pieces. I would consider this one as “done as I can get it without feeling like I’m overworking it.

I realize that the subject matter is a bit biblical. I’m not all that religious but I find old wood cut biblical illustrations interesting. “The Old Battle” is really just me fighting off procrastination. I’m going to be doing more of these and in the process refine and improve how I approach creating imagery. It’s an never ending struggle of trying to close the gap between what I see in my head and what my skills will actually produce.

One interesting thing that happened in this drawing was remembering that casting shadows on the drawing with a piece of paper is one way to figure out the angle of something before you start laying down graphite (or whatever your drawing with really)

A word on Nightshade…

Today I’m going to be participating in an event called “Nightshade All Night” Hosted by Steven Zapata and Joe Marziliano. This is a fundraiser organized by the Concept Art Association for year 2 of Protecting Artists from AI Technologies. The programs Nightshade and Glaze used together will protect artists work from being mimicked by AI. You can learn more about here.

And finally…

I guess this is also my first true “new” art post in a long while. It feels good to start putting myself out there again after a long while of silence. This is what I like about substack. It doesn’t feel so hyper.

The paper is 14x 17 60 lb.

Thanks for watching and reading!
